Ben Roethlisberger is an average QB E-mail

We don't believe it, but lots of people do.

So why do people think that Ben Roethlisberger is an elite quarterback? There's one clear answer. Because he plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Plain and simple.

Never in my life have I heard the words "overrated" and "underrated" used so much to describe the same player.

Our question to anybody who thinks Roethlisberger sucks is what defines success in the NFL?

Is it putting up Drew Brees-like numbers?

Is it throwing TDs while playing for the worst team in the NFL?

Or is it winning the damn game and winning Super Bowls?

When people start talking about how Roethlisberger is overrated or "average," I always bring up Drew Brees.

I've got nothing against Brees, but he's the exact opposite QB from Big Ben. He gets to play over half of his games in a dome, gets to throw the ball 50+ times each week, and he's never won anything.

If the fate of the world rested on a football game, I'd pick Roethlisberger over Brees every single time.

Drew Brees, for as great a QB as he's been and as many good teams that he's been on, has a career playoff record of 1-2.

Ben Roethlisberger's records in playoff games is 8-2.

Another question:

Aside from Brady, what QB in the NFL would be able to succeed playing behind the Steelers porous offensive line in a huge game in the snow at Baltimore in December?

The answer is nobody. Peyton Manning and Brees benefit from playing over half of their games indoors and both have struggled outside in the elements. Both also get immaculate pass protection every season.

Call me crazy, but I'm not sure the Steelers make that playoff run last year with Manning or Brees has QB.

But Roethlisberger's style isn't "fantasy friendly." He doesn't throw up huge numbers so box score coaches don't think he's any good.

It's just ridiculous to me that a QB who has won 2 Super Bowls and more games than any other QB in his first five seasons is as criticized as often as Roethlisberger. Even a lot of Steeler fans hate him.

If watching a QB throw 5 TDs and lose the game is more important to you than watching a guy win the game in the 4th quarter, then you should become a Saints fan.

It's just really sad that some people are missing out on a great football player because they think he is mediocre. I can't believe after all the things Roethlisberger has done that I'm still spending time defending him as an elite QB.

Never should of lost to the bears. Fregging - TOMLIN is not a great coach but a bum ( so far) that rode the coat tails of a great defence of the cowher years. and he show it as every game, As comes down to the last series of the game and the luck that, is not always going to win (week in week out,I We need skill not luck! We need to show we can route a games too. Our guys can perform much better ( their a great group of guys and talent) but lack of Tomlin growth shown no real improvement has worried me scene the time we lost the game and we played to lose, not to win, 2 years ago> I still think we can win outright if we would correct the faults I see week in week out( last session and this session again ( got lucky again last week,) Come On don't clap at your kicker whe he misses twice.. Other wise get on your knees and you know ??? Come -on Couch them or let some one else improve this talent. I fell bad for the players, as it the head couch job to improve the players and with 11 days off. you should NOT be LOSING for Chicago Bears, Shame on you TOMLIN. IMPROVE or get OUT, Would love to show you how to improve the great team someday I don't think I know I could Just give me 10 Min and I'll show you every thing your not..

ben is not as great as u say
BIG BILL oops i mean ben couldnt win in new orleans or indiapolis yea they have good olines but he does not have great decision making like brees nor manning.neither of these guys have played with a defense that if u put up 14 points u have a chance to win. Ben is a great system qb. he's perfect for what the steelers do. how do u call a qb elite when in the superbowl his wideout threw more touchdowns than him. no doubt bill is a winner but hell the steelers franchise is a winner they have always been good. but the only question i have for any big bill fan is if he never won another superbowl and continued to have similiar stats to what he has had threw out his career this far let say for about another 10 years would he be a hall of famer
